A Hometown Taste of Pittsburgh

That’s a Sandwich !?!
Pittsburgh Wall Art @Primanti Bros., Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-my hometown! On a recent visit, my husband and I took a little culinary tour in the city’s Strip District.  During our afternoon adventure, our mission was to purchase a large quantity of grape leaves for my husband’s specialty of stuffed grape leaves, which he prepares with freshly ground lamb and rice.  Well, we purchased the grape leaves, and a large amount of Italian Biscuits for my Tiramisu dessert.  Then, we were free to travel the streets!

Next stop,

The Pennsylvania Macaroni Company

on Penn Avenue.  For a moment, in this Italian specialty store, I thought I was in heaven!  As we enjoyed the tour and the shopping of Italian pastas, cheeses, meats, fresh vegetables, dried beans, spices, and the olives, the little girl emerged in excitement, as I reminisced of another place in time shopping with my grandmother for these wonderful Italian specialties.  It was a moment and an afternoon of pure JOY!

After our culinary tour, I stopped and bought some beautiful flowers from the street vendor for my mother.

I wish you a day in creating joy and beauty…

Buon Appetito!

~Cynthia

About Cynthia Ferich

After writing and self-publishing “MaMa Mia Cucina” in 2007, Cynthia's writing, cooking and culinary teachings evolved into being as an entity surrounding food, fun, family and friends.

In an effort to capture her family’s ‘old world’ Italian recipes for future generations to enjoy, her grandmother, ‘Noni’, and Cynthia joined forces. "She measured, I wrote, and we cooked."

During her grandmother's latter 80 years, she traveled in memory through her life, as they shared in stories of a lifetime and long ago. As they shared this final chapter in her life, what Cynthia soon discovered through all of the measuring, cooking, sharing in the love of a family, and in the love of a friendship, was the passion for cooking, and a love that nourishes us all… It’s all about the FOOD!
